The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) gives parents certain rights regarding surveys, the collection and use of information for marketing, and some physical exams. Ririe Joint School District No. 252 notifies parents of these rights each year.
Your rights as a parent
- To consent before your child takes a survey funded by the U.S. Department of Education that asks about protected topics (such as political beliefs, mental health, religious practices, income, or family relationships).
- To review, upon request, any survey, instructional material, or material used to collect personal information for marketing.
- To opt your child out of certain non-emergency physical exams and of activities that collect personal information for marketing or selling.
Notice and opt-out
The district will notify parents at the start of the school year of any specific activities covered by PPRA and will give reasonable notice before any such activity, with an opportunity to opt out. To review materials or opt out, contact the office.
